If someone were to present you with your dream opportunity, would you be ready to accept it? So many times we talk about what we would do “if such and such happened” or when “this and that is lined up”; but when it does come to fruition, either we don’t recognize it, or we’re not prepared to accept the blessing with our name on it.
Let’s be clear, as an entrepreneur, I believe in taking risks. However, there is a big difference between taking that leap of faith with stretch goals and biting off more than you can chew. There is nothing worse than selling ourselves as being capable of providing a service, then having to ask for a few days to get back with them before we can start. That’s how contracts are missed and promotions are lost.
Be realistic in your abilities and capabilities. If you know that you are not truly prepared to take on that big responsibility, then it may be in your best interest to pass it up and hope that another opportunity comes along. You always want to deliver a quality product that will be representative of your brand.
As professionals, our credibility is directly proportional to delivering what we promise, and that means we should always be prepared.
